International Women’s Day, observed on March 8th this year, by the students of Year 5 and 6 was a vibrant and enlightening event. The day was dedicated to honouring the achievements of women worldwide and inspiring young minds to become advocates for positive change. Students watched a captivating video showcasing remarkable achievements of women across the globe in various fields such as science, arts, sports and activism. Engaging discussions took place where students shared their thoughts on influential women who have made a difference in the world. They pondered on the ways they can contribute to make the world a better place for women. Students expressed gratitude towards the women in their lives by designing thoughtful cards. These cards were meant to thank the women who have played significant roles, whether as mothers, sisters, friends, bus nannies, support staff at school, or domestic help.

International Mother Language Day, observed on February 21st each year, is a worldwide observance to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. Many students emphasized how Language Day serves as a crucial platform for preserving and celebrating their cultural identity through language. They believe that language is not just a means of communication but also a reflection of their heritage and roots. Students from the secondary school shared a collaborative Padlet wall with students of Year 5 and 6 to express their perspectives on the significance of Language Day.

Lingo Fest is a vibrant celebration of language and culture, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to share in the joy of linguistic expression. Year 5 commemorated Lingo Fest with an array of engaging activities, encompassing poetry readings, storytelling sessions, and sharing cultural traditions in their native languages. Students seized the chance to acquire new languages, refine their linguistic abilities, and engage with various cultures through interactive experiences that captivated and enthralled.
Year 5G class assembly was centered around the theme of "Wellbeing" which proved to be a profoundly enriching and motivational occasion, impacting both students and parents deeply. The main feature of the assembly was the role-play demonstrating students grappling with various wellbeing issues, showcasing diverse coping strategies to overcome them. Students also shared insightful quotes, contributing to raising awareness about the importance of wellbeing. The atmosphere was further elevated by the resonating melody of the wellbeing song, skillfully performed by the students, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present. The assembly concluded with parents engaging in discussions, providing valuable feedback, and emphasizing the significance of prioritizing wellbeing
The event began with a warm welcome to the parents to the Mathematics week aligned with the theme Math in COP28. Students were engaged in the activities like Sustainability Code Breaker, Solar Oven Designing, Carbon Footprints Calculation and Rebuild the Forest. The students participated in the activities with great zeal and enthusiasm. In collaboration with the parents, they learnt mathematical skills, social skills and life skills with eco-friendly possibilities. This experiential learning will indeed make our students responsible citizens and future smart for the coming generations.
Year 5's recent field trip to Legoland emerged as a pivotal chapter in their academic journey and fortifying their well-being. Interacting with their peers and teachers in a setting outside the classroom fostered a sense of camaraderie and strengthened interpersonal relationships. As they marveled at the architectural wonders before them, the students not only gained a newfound appreciation for global landmarks but also felt inspired to channel their creativity into their own projects. The miniature wonders not only sparked imagination but also kindled a lasting flame of inspiration. This unique blend of fun, relaxation, and educational exposure proved Legoland to be an extraordinary experience, leaving indelible impressions on Year 5's well-being and creative spirits
Year 5 students honoured the flag and celebrated flag day with tremendous passion. Flag Day is an occasion to commemorate the national identity and legacy of the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the national flag's significance as a symbol of the nation's goals and unity. Students discussed the significance of Flag Day in groups and looked into the meaning of the colours in the UAE flag. Year 5C Emirati student Ahmed Linjawy gave a speech on the significance of UAE Flag Day. He explained the design of the national flag and how it symbolises the Arab unification. To commemorate the day, posters highlighting the significance of Flag Day were created.
Sports Day in Year 5 was a unifying event that promoted collaboration, physical growth, and a sense of community. The Winchester PE department was in charge of organising the event. It included a variety of activities, and the presence of parents boosted the young athletes' enthusiasm and excitement. In addition to being enjoyable, this trip provided priceless chances for social and personal growth. The occasion was a huge success.
Students of Year 5 kicked off the Science Week by exploring the cosmos to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students along with parents explored real-world scientific issues related to space and sustainability. The activities planned helped to discover and understand the vast and amazing universe that surrounds us. Activities conducted helped the parents and children to express their creativity using the STEM challenges. The stem challenge helped the students to systematically think through problems, apply the information they have learnt about technology and engineering to figure out the best solutions. Overall it was an engaging day with a range of exciting activities.
