Form tutors of year 5 surprised the students by celebrating their Term 1achievements and success on 10th December, the last day of Term1 sessions. Students were thrilled to receive their certificates virtually and they congratulated each other for their achievements. The celebration assembly definitely motivated the students to set targets and achieve more in the coming term. Students expressed their gratitude towards their teachers for preparing them to reach these goals. It was indeed a memorable day for year 5 students.

Year 5 students enjoyed an exclusive virtual field trip to the historic Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Children explored a variety of unexpected roles and functions that led to the development of complex projects , like the Starliner/CST-100 and the SLS. Along the way , students were exposed to the unusual paths of a few of the amazing Boeing employees that have led to their unique careers."The legacy of heroes — the memory of a great name, and the inheritance of a great example." "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them." “No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.'' May we never forget our fallen comrades. At Winchester, the UAE flag was at half mast today from 8 am. At 11:30 am ,we all observed one minute of silence followed by raising of the flag by our principal, Ms Meenakshi and playing of the National Anthem. With due respect ,Year 5 & 6 offered their appreciation to the great heroes of UAE who sacrificed their lives- for us to enjoy privileges .We owe debt to them which can never be repaid. Children reflected on the few video shared with them during registration time and scribed them on the padlet links shared by the form tutor.The day started with children sharing and presenting the culture and traditions of their country along with parents participation. It was followed by talent show where children displayed skills of singing and playing instruments. Next, in the Public speaking activity students were given the opportunity to speak about sustainable UAE , initiatives taken by the rulers and its impact and UAE’s contribution towards well-being, health and safety of the people. Children enjoyed creating quizzes on UAE to assess their friend’s general knowledge about various facts. Lastly, the activities also included link to ICT as children were challenged to design home country’s unique logo to put on their national team’s sports jersey.Year 5I assembly on the 26th of Nov, started with a beautiful song played on the piano to introduce the theme of the assembly. Children shared their individual poems and poster about importance and meaning of Empathy. The topic of Empathy was linked with storytelling as children of 5I presented a story. Through the story the message on caring about other’s feelings was conveyed to the audience. The story telling was followed by reflection on the topic. Lastly, through a melodious song on empathy children expressed their understanding of the theme.On Monday, 16th November, meaningful and child friendly activities were organized to create the awareness and importance of having Tolerance in a diverse community to have a healthy social life. All activities were conducted online and face to face learning during registration. The students had engaged themselves with different activities on tolerance such as Making posters, creating acrostic poems and even preparing questions to interview their friends to find out how tolerant they are. Undoubtedly all these activities helped children to realize how significant is the principle of Tolerance in the present world. Students have posted their work in the Y5 Tolerance Day padlet wall, highlighting the different interesting activities they have done on the Tolerance day. A very energizing morning was set up by the students of 5B. Students were very confident in conveying the message about importance of healthy lifestyle. Children reiterated the importance of leading a healthy life through role plays and skits. They learnt the importance of having a healthy diet (eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables), avoiding foods and drinks with added or extra sugar combined with daily one hour of physical activity. Healthy diet is the basis for a well-functioning body. A nutritious and balanced diet, regular exercise, timely hours of sleep and a positive attitude are some key elements to lead a healthy life.
