The Winchester Lingo fest took off to a rolling start on Monday, 24th January lasting until Friday, 28th January 2022. It flew the flag for languages spoken by our students throughout the week. Students, parents and teachers came together to discuss and celebrate our diverse languages thereby providing a window to their respective cultures, traditions, and lives.
Year 5 students had Book Fest. They shared with their peers the list of children’s books- best seller, written by the authors of their native country. Students selected the books with their English translated version. Students read the excerpts from their favourite book and shared the summary/synopsis/ review of that book, first in their own native language and then translated the same in English for their peers. Year 6 Students had Multi Lingual Film Festival. They watched short films and explored movies from different languages. Students belonging to diverse cultural background shared the famous dialogues in their own native language and some tried giving subtitles in their own native language; they also translated the same in English for their peers and made it more interactive. Parental engagement was remarkably seen in the Y5 and Y6 Lingo Fest activity as in Year 5 they teamed up with their child/ren and shared with students the famous writers/authors/poets of their country. It also brought students’ attention to some key phrases or expressions or vocabulary or idioms used by these writers in their books. Parents translated those phrases in English for the students, whereas in Year 6 they shared the history and origin of their native language.

On 24th January 2022, students of Year 5 celebrated the fourth International Day of Education under the theme “Changing Course, Transforming Education”. The purpose of this theme is to strengthen and welcome the revival of education. To transform education, we need solutions adapted to regions, communities and individuals.
