Week 2: Children engaged themselves in various activities this week to bring about the spirit of Ramadan. The following activities were the highlight of this week.
Year 5 and 6 students got a wonderful opportunity to explore technology; they attended a workshop conducted by Microsoft to learn about One Drive Application. All students signed up in their schools Microsoft account and uploaded documents on their One Drive. They explored all features of the app. Children also collected freebies from Microsoft in this session. “Sharing is Caring” was conscientiously put into practice on 7th February 2019, when everyone’s heart soared with pure and virtuous thoughts to raise money for different social causes. Year 5 F, G, H, I and J children donated toys, books and stationery to sell and raise money for charity at Dubai Cares. This event also helps to incorporate entrepreneurship skills in children
The children of Winchester, Year 5 had an enriching awareness session on saying no to the use of helium balloons which was held on 26th February 2019. Gareth, Seif and Samad of 5A promoted the UN sustainability goals and shared the effect of helium gas balloons to the environment and provided some solutions to minimize the threat. The children shared their ideas, opinions and critical questioning to build interest on sustainability. It was an exciting discussion between the children and teachers. Under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has come a long way in meeting the challenges of energy and climate change, under the framework of Vision 2021 and the strategic plans of each emirate. To promote this further, students [year5 and year 6], parents and teachers joined the clean-up drive at the UMM Sequin beach on Sunday, 5th May 2019. During this cleanup drive, 1390 cigarette stubs were collected within 40 mins by the students and teachers, which will be used to make an art display. This display will create awareness and motivate students to take actions for a better environment. The Dubai Municipality appreciated the efforts of the students from The Winchester School and presented an appreciation certificate.
Year 5 students had the opportunity to connect with the students of Oltea Doamna in Romania and shared the causes, impacts of Climate change. This initiative was made to promote UN Sustainable Goals 13 and create awareness amongst students internationally to protect the environment.
The children of Winchester school believe in “If you can imagine it you can create. If you can dream it, you can become it.” The year 5 students welcomed every day with a smile with various activities, based on dreams and aspirations. The children made posters displaying positive vibes, they dressed in the costumes of what they want to be. Parents were invited to speak about how they achieved their dreams which brought an interesting and exciting discussion between the children, parents and teachers.
The National Happiness Agenda aims to make UAE the happiest of all ... day the country decided to announce its commitment to happiness. At the Winchester, school, the happiness day was celebrated with lot of energy and happy smiles everywhere. In year 5, the day was celebrated with lots of fun filled activities. Students sang songs, played games, made badges and received few fair hugs and high-fives from teachers as schools went the extra mile to help pupil be happy and spread happiness. |
