Year 5's English Week, themed "Green Literature Expedition," was a remarkable event aimed at promoting environmental awareness and language proficiency. The week-long carnival featured an array of engaging activities that allowed students to explore the intricate relationship between language, literature, and nature. In essence, English Week is a vibrant and educational initiative that seeks to enrich students' language and literary abilities, ignite a passion for reading and writing, and cultivate a supportive English language learning environment within the school community. It represents a dedicated effort to celebrate and elevate the English language as an essential tool for communication and self-expression.

Students enthusiastically celebrated the day by participating in activities that inspired young learners to explore the mystical world of the famous author.
Theme for this year was: The Gloriumptiuos World of Roald Dahl. Students were given a choice to create their own dictionary of Roald Dahl’s Vocabulary which not only helped them to enhance their vocabulary skills but gave wings to their imagination. Others designed a character flip book exploring Roald Dahl characters as the famous writer provides the perfect opportunity to explore characterization. Some pupils read facts about Dahl which they had researched themselves. The day reiterated the many ‘life lessons’ that Dahl’s books contain which are still very much relevant today. Overall it was an active and insightful learning experience for the Students. International Day of Charity was observed on 5th September 2023.
The day was officially declared by the United Nations (which comprises of 193 countries that are member states) in 2012. 5th September was chosen as the official date to commemorate the passing of Mother Teresa. Year 5 students celebrated International Day of Charity to raise awareness on helping others through volunteer and philanthropic activities. Collaboration through group discussions and public speaking skills were developed as students formulated ideas to raise awareness. Students created posters or presentations about different charity initiatives and the causes they support to raise awareness. Students showed their creativity by composing poems on the importance of giving, helping and kindness. An informative session was conducted by Dr. Yousra to help students make smart choices in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. She touched upon the following topics: Healthy life style, nutritional values of food items, importance of exercising, proper sleeping habits, physical hygiene, mental and emotional health. Students were excited to see the healthy lunch box ideas shared by doctor and were eager to share with their mother. Students enthusiastically participated in the quiz at the end of the session. Overall it was a successful event as it reinforced the concept of healthy lifestyle which also helps in improving self-esteem.
21st September is marked as World Gratitude Day as well as the International Day of Peace. Students of Year 5 were made aware of why Peace day is celebrated and how as a global citizen we can contribute to it. They expressed their gratitude to their parents, teachers, helpers and everything that helps them lead their lives with ease, through thank you notes.
New Beginning is always challenging but exciting! Year 5 and 6 newbies were welcomed back to the new academic year with enthusiasm and excitement. Smiling, curious faces lit with happiness as they were engaged in hands on activities- collaborating, listening, making decisions and sharing their new learning. They were also welcomed by SLT’s, HODS, HOKS. The day also had in store the school tour, PE, STREAM and Music lessons which were thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Students enjoyed the induction day as it was quite an enriching experience and a memorable day for everyone.
To fresh start and endless possibilities and opportunities, The Winchester School welcomes our learners for a new adventure. It was a pleasure to see the smiling faces ready to meet and greet during the session and embark on a new journey. The Ski Dubai Year 5 Trip proved to be a memorable and successful experience for all participants. The event provided students with the opportunity to engage in winter sports activities, fostering teamwork, physical fitness, and personal growth. The trip accomplished its objectives of combining education and enjoyment in a safe and controlled environment. Students actively participated in varied winter sport activities, displaying enthusiasm and eagerness to exhibit their skills. The snow park activities fostered creativity and a sense of adventure among the students. The chairlift ride provided students with a unique and breathtaking view of the surroundings, creating lasting memories. The trip encouraged physical activity, resilience, and self-confidence among the students.
Celebration assembly is a special event held in schools to recognize and honour the accomplishments, talents, and positive contributions of students. These assemblies serve as a platform to celebrate achievements in various areas, including academic excellence, sports, arts and personal growth. Keeping the same thought in mind, the students of Year 5and Year 6 conducted the celebration assembly of their respective Year groups on Friday 16th June 2023.
